McNair does not carve many Eiders and they are always a crowd pleaser. Mark told me that Dr. Starr’s famous Eider was the inspiration for this carving. A very impressive 25″ long solid cedar Common Eider drake with an inletted neck seat, glass eyes, carved nostrils and his most desirable addition of a carved mussel in the mouth. Mark’s Eider bills are usually stylized somewhat, but this one is anatomically correct in size and shape. Simulated raised wings with beautiful draw knife marks that reflect light all over the body. Finished correctly in the New England style with no paint on the bottom, a very stable drying crack and incised McNair signature. A real classic.
